A U.S. service member died Thursday of a wound sustained during combat in eastern Afghanistan, according to U.S. Forces Afghanistan.
The name of the service member is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
An Afghan security force member was also killed and several were wounded in the attack. No additional details were given.

This is the second U.S. service member killed in Afghanistan within a week.
Cpl. Joseph Maciel, 20, died and two others were injured during an apparent insider attack at a small base in Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan Province on Saturday, according to the Pentagon.
That attack is under investigation.
