US service member killed in Afghanistan

A U.S. service member was killed Thursday in Afghanistan, according to the Pentagon.

The service member, who was not named pending next of kin notification, was assigned to the NATO Resolute Support mission.

{mosads}The incident is under investigation, and no additional details were released.

“We mourn and honor the sacrifice of our service member,” Resolute Support and U.S. Forces – Afghanistan Commanding Gen. Scott Miller said in a statement. “We remain committed.”

This is the eighth U.S. service member to die Afghanistan this year.

Two Americans were killed while serving in the country last month, one in an apparent insider attack and the other in a “noncombat related incident.”
