One Marine was killed in a homicide at Camp Lejeune and a second was taken into custody on suspicion of being involved, the North Carolina Marine Corps base said.

The base said the incident took place in an “on-base barracks room” on Wednesday night. Camp Lejeune law enforcement authorities apprehended a Marine suspected of being involved with the killing around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect and the victim have not yet been identified by authorities.

The base said in an update on Thursday afternoon that the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The Hill has reached out to the Marine Corps and NCIS for further comment.
