Pentagon to present Trump several military options on Iran: report

The Pentagon on Friday will reportedly present President Trump with a range of military options on Iran after U.S. officials have blamed the country for an attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.

Sources familiar with the plan told The Associated Press that the Defense Department will reportedly give Trump a list of options including airstrike targets inside Iran. He will also reportedly be warned that military action against the country could turn into a war.

The president’s schedule for Friday lists an intelligence briefing that is closed to press.

{mosads}The AP reported that the U.S. response to Iran could include political, economic or military actions.

“It is my job to provide military options to the president should he decide to respond with military force,” Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters earlier this week according to the AP.

Trump will want “a full range of options,” he said. “In the Middle East, of course, we have military forces there and we do a lot of planning and we have a lot of options.”

The Hill has reached out to the Pentagon and White House for comment.

The reported meeting follow attacks claimed by the Houthi rebels in Yemen on oil production in Saudi Arabia. Both the Saudis and the U.S. have blamed Iran, which supports the Houthis in Yemen’s civil war, for the attacks.

Iran has warned that a U.S. strike would provoke “all-out war.”
