Poll: Majority sees Keystone as helping US meet energy demands

A new poll finds that a majority of people in the U.S. think the Keystone XL pipeline would help the country achieve energy security.

{mosads}In a poll released by Bloomberg National Thursday evening, 56 percent of those surveyed said the proposed pipeline was an opportunity to reduce the nation’s dependence on oil imports.

But 58 percent of the respondents also want Canada to introduce a plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions before President Obama approves the pipeline.

The State Department is expected to release its final environmental impact statement of the oil sands pipeline in the near future.

In an earlier State review, the department said the pipeline would not speed up oil sands development or have a devastating impact on the environment.
