Anti-Keystone ad to air during SOTU address

Billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer is paying to run an ad blasting Keystone XL during President Obama’s State of the Union address on MSNBC Tuesday evening.

The ad, released by Steyer’s green group NextGen Climate Action ahead of its airdate, calls the controversial pipeline a “sucker punch to America’s heartland.”

{mosads}It is set to air on MSNBC one hour before Obama’s State of the Union speech and one hour after.

NextGen said it will also push its online community to circulate the ad during Obama’s speech.

The one-minute ad buy argues that, after Keystone XL carries crude from Alberta’s oil sands through the U.S. to the Gulf of Mexico, it will export it out to foreign countries like China.

“Chinese government back interests have invested $30 billion in Canadian tar sands development,” the ad states. “Keystone means more profit for investors like China, more power for their economy and more pollution for the world.”
