EPA’s McCarthy visits Taiwan, Vietnam

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Gina McCarthy is traveling to Taiwan and Vietnam this week for events related to environmental education and international cooperation on environmental issues.

McCarthy planned to visit with top environmental government officials and business leaders in both countries on her trip, which is scheduled for Monday to Wednesday. She will also give speeches at major universities in Taipei, Taiwan, and Hanoi, Vietnam.

McCarthy’s Taiwan trip is the first time a Cabinet-level United States official has visited the country since 2000, The Associated Press reported.

“During both visits, administrator McCarthy will note that EPA’s efforts to make a visible difference in communities across the United States form the foundation for its international cooperation as well,” EPA said in a statement. “By sharing best practices on environmental protection, the United States and its partners can assist each other in making environmental improvements at the community level, where they matter most.”
