Green group raises $3 million for campaign contributions

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund said it has raised more than $3 million to donate to candidates in this election cycle as parts of its GiveGreen program.

The program aims to support through campaign contributions federal and state candidates who have shown dedication to environmental causes, the LCV said. The Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund PAC helps fund GiveGreen as an alliance between the groups.

{mosads}“We have raised more money, and faster, than ever before,” LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski said in a Thursday statement. “It speaks to the energy out there for supporting true environmental champions and the strong need to defend them in 2014.”

The groups set a goal of raising $5 million for GiveGreen for the 2014 election. GiveGreen raised or contributed more than $2 million in 2012 and $1.3 million in 2010.

“This cycle GiveGreen has already surpassed the total 2012 figure before Memorial Day,” the LCV said.

GiveGreen has raised money for 12 candidates so far, all Democrats running for the Senate.
