Obama to attend UN climate summit in NY

President Obama will attend a one-day United Nations climate summit in New York on Sept. 23, according to a White House official.

{mosads}The summit will give world leaders the opportunity to share the steps their countries are taking to mitigate climate change.

According to Responding to Climate Change, U.N. climate change director Christiana Figueres said Chinese President Xi Jinping also plans to attend.

The event is meant to help increase momentum heading into the 2015 Paris climate talks, where nearly 120 countries will work to finalize a new global climate treaty.
