McCarthy slams feds’ tips for making s’mores
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) says he has pinpointed exactly what is wrong with the U.S. government: tips for roasting marshmallows.
Last week the U.S. Forest Service published a blog post giving campers helpful tips on how to roast their marshmallows in a safe way for making s’mores.
{mosads}That right there, McCarthy said, is the problem.
“I don’t know if you caught this, but last Friday the Forest Service published an article about how to roast marshmallows,” McCarthy wrote in his fall memo to House Republicans on Thursday. “Tips included using a roasting stick of at least 30 inches in length and substituting fruit for the chocolate and slices of angel food cake for graham crackers.”
He adds: “This perfectly captures what is wrong with our government. Hard-earned tax dollars supporting bureaucrats who can’t pass up an opportunity to tell us how to live our lives.”
The Agriculture Department post suggested campers “get creative” and move away from s’mores to cut down calories, as well as reducing sugar for kids.
McCarthy calls out the Obama administration for failing to have a strategy on basic things, like to “confront terrorist groups” but has them for “things Americans are supposed to be able to do for themselves.”
