A new poll from a national environmental group shows Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) beating his Republican opponent for the Senate, Terri Lynn Land, by 7 points.
Weeks before the midterm election for the seat being abandoned by Sen. Carl Levin (D), the Monday poll commissioned by the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) found that 47 percent of voters would choose Peters, compared to 40 percent for Land.
{mosads}The LCV said Monday’s poll is the closest Peters has gotten to 50 percent of the vote in the group’s polls. Peters won among independent voters, women, African-Americans and voters under 45.
The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling late last week, gave Land a 47 percent unfavorable rating among voters and 35 percent favorable. In PPP’s first poll in December, Land’s favorable rating was only one point lower, but her unfavorable rating was 24 points below its current level.
Peters has been ahead in nearly every recent poll in the race.
The LCV has endorsed Peters and is running advertisements trying to tie Land to the unpopular billionaire Koch brothers, who have funded groups that are helping Land’s campaign.
