BP looks to reignite payment fight over Gulf spill

BP is looking to reverse payments to certain victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The move, opposing lawyers says, could open up challenges to hundreds of thousands of individual damage-claim recipients, Bloomberg reports.

{mosads}BP will argue in the U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans that the administrators handling its settlement program didn’t understand the deal with nonprofit agencies.

BP says a group of nonprofit agencies that didn’t suffer any damages from the 2010 spill received hundreds of thousands of dollars.

But the victims lawyers say it’s a slippery slope, and that if BP is successful in challenging the payments awarded to nonprofits, it will use its argument against other individuals, according to Bloomberg.
