Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Gina McCarthy is scheduled to visit a Washington, D.C., school on Thursday to draw attention to Children’s Health Month.
The visit is meant to raise awareness that children are “uniquely vulnerable to environmental hazards,” the EPA said.
{mosads}McCarthy will tour the school with D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and visit students to see what they are learning about the environment.
The EPA says longer allergy seasons and worsening smog, which exacerbate asthma in children, can be attributed to warmer temperatures from climate change and carbon pollution.
After unveiling its signature climate rule on carbon pollution from existing power plants, McCarthy said the new standards were a big win for public health and would prevent future cases of asthma and respiratory problems in children.
