Greens boost Senate Dem with $1.6M in Colorado

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is putting $1.6 million into a field campaign to reelect Sen. Mark Udall (D) in Colorado.

The green group kicked off the ground campaign on Thursday. It will target drop-off voters in Denver and Jefferson County.

{mosads}LCV vows to knock on at least 268,000 doors by Election Day, and said it will target “likely” Udall supporters who voted in the 2012 presidential election but not the 2010 midterms.

Udall is facing a tough reelection race against Republican Rep. Cory Gardner. A recent poll gave the congressman a 6-percentage-point lead over Udall, the fourth poll to put Gardner ahead.

“Colorado experienced damaging extreme weather events over the past several years, so it can’t afford to have climate science denier Cory Gardner in the Senate,” said Daniel J. Weiss, senior vice president of campaigns for LCV.

“Our door to door campaign will ensure that voters know that Mark Udall will act on climate change to reduce the threat posed by future storms, floods, droughts and wildfires,” Weiss said.

The campaign is a part of the LCV’s grassroots operation to mobilize volunteers in nine Senate races that the group says are crucial to environmental progress.
