A Houston-based company says one of its pipelines has spilled more than 8,000 gallons of jet fuel into a river in Indiana.

Buckeye Pipe Line says it shut the line down immediately when it found the pressure problem Friday night, The Associated Press reported on Sunday

Local officials say they have placed booms in St. Marys River, the body of water into which the fuel spilled, and are vacuuming the oil off the surface, the AP reported.{mosads}

The cleanup may take weeks, according to Decatur Mayor Kenneth L. Meyer.

The Environmental Protection Agency said it’s monitoring the air around the area, as well as the water quality at a few places downstream from the contamination, according to the AP.
