EPA unveils chromium-6 testing guidelines

The new guidance lays out recommendations for how and when communities should test their water for chromium-6.

As it stands now, EPA tests for the total amount of chromium in drinking water, but doesn’t specifically test for chromium-6, the chemical in question. Under this system, the EPA has not identified drinking water that exceeds safe chromium levels.

EPA is in the process of re-evaluating its standards to determine whether changes need to be made.
