Senate panels due to vote on budget director nominee

{mosads}Her nomination stands in contrast to that of Thomas Perez to be Labor secretary. Republicans are out Monday accusing Perez of wrongdoing in a deal he struck with the city of St. Paul, Minn. over discriminatory lending practices. The GOP alleges Perez made a secret deal with the city that may have prevented the Justice Department from recovering millions of dollars owed the government. Democrats say the accusations are a baseless smear campaign. 

Burwell currently works in the private sector as the head of the charitable Wal-Mart Foundation. Despite some liberal objections to Wal-Mart’s anti-union activiites, her association has not drawn fire from liberal senators. 

The West Virginia native would replace acting director Jeff Zients, who also serves as the deputy director for management and who is widely expected to leave OMB soon. Jack Lew left as the head of OMB in 2012 to become Obama’s chief of staff and he now serves as the secretary of the Treasury.
