Boehner defends ‘unusual’ farm bill vote

{mosads}Boehner made the comments just moments after he argued against the merits of a single, comprehensive immigration bill on the grounds that members have trouble digesting and explaining large pieces of legislation that are rushed to the floor.

Democrats have protested both the process and the removal of the nutrition section, and Republicans appear to need to pass the farm bill mostly on their own.

Asked if he would allow a House-Senate conference report to come to the floor if it included the food stamp provisions and lacked support from a majority of Republicans, Boehner dodged.

“My goal right now is to get the farm bill passed,” he said. “We’ll get to those issues later.”
