Business groups lukewarm on administration regulatory efforts

In a blog post, the Chamber’s Bill Kovacs agreed.

“The results of this lookback will not have a material impact on the real regulatory burdens facing businesses today,” he wrote.

The White House has said the initiatives laid out Tuesday would likely save some $10 billion over five years, and they make a significant review of the Labor and Transportation departments and the Environmental Protection Agency. But the review does not include certain GOP bugaboos, like the Dodd-Frank financial overhaul and the healthcare reform law.

Both the Chamber and the Business Roundtable signaled in their responses that they wished the administration had taken more of a hack at EPA regulations, which many conservatives and industry groups have found especially excessive.

The Chamber, for instance, mentioned the EPA’s oversight of water, while the Business Roundtable discussed the agency’s plan to offer new ozone standards.
