Tiberi tapped for Joint Economic Committee post

Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio) on Friday was named vice chairman of the Joint Economic Committee as Republicans shift around lawmakers amid changes in the party hierarchy.

Tiberi fills the slot most recently held by Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), who recently took the helm of the House Ways and Means Committee, replacing Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) after he was elected Speaker.

{mosads}”Congress must do more to put American workers and American families first,” Tiberi said in a statement.

The Ways and Means panel this week shuffled around subcommittee chairmen after the change in leadership.

“I have worked with Pat Tiberi for years, and he is the right person to help lead the Joint Economic Committee,” Ryan said in a statement.

“He understands that through policies like tax reform and strong trade agreements we can grow the economy and encourage job creation,” Ryan said.

“Earlier this year, his leadership on trade promotion authority was instrumental to getting that important legislation signed into law,” he said.

Tiberi this week also was tapped to lead the health subcommittee, last held by Brady.

The Joint Economic Committee chairmanship, held by Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.), and vice chairmanship alternate between the Senate and House every Congress.
