Top Senate Banking Dem hopeful for infrastructure bill
The top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee says he’s eager to work with the panel’s new chairman on infrastructure investment and corporate accountability.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (Ohio) said in a Wednesday statement the he hoped to “find common ground on reasonable, commonsense ideas” with presumptive Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho).
{mosads}Crapo, the second-most senior committee Republican, is expected to replace Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.), who will lose his gavel due to Republican conference term limits.
Brown touted a strong working relationship with Crapo and laid out some of his priorities.
“Americans who believe the system is rigged certainly don’t want to see Wall Street write the rules,” said Brown, reflecting Trump’s criticism of corporate “elites” and progressive distrust of Wall Street.
“We must continue fighting to preserve and strengthen Wall Street reforms that protect American families from being on the hook for another bailout,” Brown added.
The Ohio senator highlighted “badly-needed infrastructure investments that will help get Americans back to work” proposed by both candidates as a top priority.
“We cannot forget the full title of the Committee is Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs,” said Brown. “I look forward to learning more about the President-elect’s plans for revitalizing our cities.”
