President Trump on Monday said tariffs “have put the U.S. in a very strong bargaining position,” adding that countries “will be ‘Tariffed!'” if they don’t make fair deals with Washington.
“Tariffs have put the U.S. in a very strong bargaining position, with Billions of Dollars, and Jobs, flowing into our Country – and yet cost increases have thus far been almost unnoticeable,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “If countries will not make fair deals with us, they will be ‘Tariffed!'”
Trump’s tweet came as he is expected to announce $200 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods as early as Monday.
{mosads}Trump added in a separate tweet that “Our Steel Industry is the talk of the World.” Trump earlier this year announced global tariffs of 25 percent on imported steel.
“Our Steel Industry is the talk of the World. It has been given new life, and is thriving,” he tweeted. “Billions of Dollars is being spent on new plants all around the country!”
Trump last week told aides to move forward with the $200 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods, Bloomberg News reported. The nations have already gone back-and-forth with tariffs since Trump has been president, each imposing $50 billion worth of tariffs.
Trump expressed confidence last week that his tariffs plan with China would be successful.
China’s foreign ministry said on Monday that Beijing would respond if Trump implements the new tariffs, Reuters reported.
