Trump’s approval rating on economy ticks up to new high

The percentage of Americans who approve of President Trump’s handling of the economy has reached a new high, according to a poll released Monday. 

The Gallup poll found 53 percent of those surveyed approve of the president’s handling of the issue, up 3 percentage points from a poll conducted in August. This month’s figure marks Trump’s best approval rating on the economy, up from the previous high of 51 percent. 

{mosads}Gallup said the average approval rating on the economy for all presidents from Ronald Reagan through Barack Obama was 45 percent.

The Trump administration routinely points to glowing unemployment and jobs numbers as evidence of its success. 

While a majority gives Trump positive marks on the economy, less than half of voters approve of his handling of foreign affairs, immigration and health care, according to Gallup.

On foreign affairs, 40 percent approve of Trump’s performance while 56 percent disapprove.

The average rating on the issue for presidents Reagan through Obama was 50 percent, Gallup said.

Forty percent approve of how the president has handled immigration, an issue he made the cornerstone of his midterm campaign.

On health care, a subject Democrats seized on in the midterms, 36 percent of people said they approve of Trump’s handling of the issue.

The Gallup poll surveyed 1,037 people from Nov. 1 to 11, with some surveys taking place before the midterm elections and some taking place after. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
