Gary Cohn joked about sending Trump to help Brexit talks: report

Former White House economic adviser Gary Cohn jokingly offered to send President Trump to the UK to help them negotiate Brexit during a dinner at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week.

Axios reported that the ex-Goldman Sachs president addressed business and political leaders at a Goldman Sachs client dinner, delivering remarks about globalization, citing two sources at the event.

{mosads}Cohn reportedly made the joke to the UK’s top financial minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond.

“Chancellor, you’ve got your issues and we’ve got our issues,” Cohn said, according to Axios. “But we do have this guy in America who’s supposed to be the world’s best negotiator. In fact he wrote the book ‘The Art of the Deal.’

“Maybe if we sent him over to you it could help you, and it could be helpful for us too,” he said.

Cohn, who left the Trump administration in March, declined to comment to Axios.

British lawmakers are struggling to coalesce around a deal for the UK to leave the European Union. The Brexit deadline is fast approach on March 29, but Prime Minister Theresa May’s proposed plan was voted down by Parliament.
