Ex-Gov. Scott Walker joins fiscally conservative group

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) on Monday joined the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) as a senior adviser, the fiscally conservative organization announced.

“I’m thrilled to work with the National Taxpayers Union,” Walker said in a news release. “Throughout its fifty-year history, NTU has been one of the most successful and effective taxpayer advocacy organizations, and my experience working with them both in and out of government has shown their commitment to taxpayers all across the country.”

{mosads}This isn’t the first position that Walker has accepted since losing reelection last fall to current Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D). Last month, Walker announced that he accepted a job to run the conservative group Young America’s Foundation, and said that he would not be running for any political office in the next several years.

NTU is a group that advocates for fiscally conservative policies and protecting taxpayers’ rights. It supported the 2017 GOP tax law and the bipartisan IRS modernization bill Trump signed last month and opposed the deal to lift spending caps that Trump signed last week.

Walker is the second high-profile Wisconsin Republican to join NTU in recent months. Earlier this year, Leah Vukmir, a former GOP state senator who lost a race for U.S. Senate last fall, joined the group as vice president of state affairs.

In announcing the Walker hire, NTU cited Walker’s “responsible” budgeting and tax cuts as governor.

“NTU supported and admired many of Governor Walker’s fiscal policy achievements during his time in office, and we stand to benefit from his experience and expertise in fighting for taxpayers now and into the future,” NTU President Pete Sepp said.
