Top Chinese negotiator to lead next round of trade talks

China will send its top negotiator to lead the next round of trade talks with the U.S. amid a standoff between the two nations. 

Vice Premier Liu will travel to Washington, D.C. for the negotiations, China’s vice commerce minister, Wang Shouwen, announced Sunday, according to The Associated Press. 

“The two sides should find a solution through equal dialogue in accordance with the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit,” Wang told reporters, according to the AP. {mosads}

The talks are expected in Washington on Oct. 10-11, according to Reuters. 

It will be the 13th round of trade talks between the U.S. and China in a trade war that’s been escalating for more than a year after the Trump administration imposed tariffs on Chinese imports. 

A deal has yet to be reached between the two largest economies in the world and experts warn the ongoing trade war poses a threat to the global economy.
