Unvaccinated JPMorgan employees in Manhattan told to work from home

JPMorgan employees in Manhattan who are not vaccinated against the coronavirus will have to work from home, according to a company memo sent to employees Monday and seen by The Hill.  

The directive comes after New York state’s health department said all individuals in offices that don’t require the coronavirus vaccine will have to wear masks indoors. 

“It seems unfair to require our vaccinated employees to wear masks all day at their desks, and would be a step that would slow the progress we’ve already made toward business normalcy,” JPMorgan said in the memo to employees.

The memo was first reported by Reuters. 

Fully vaccinated employees will only have to wear masks in elevators, lobbies and when they are in cafes but not eating.

The memo says more than 90 percent of the company’s employees in the Manhattan office are fully vaccinated against the virus. The company encouraged those who aren’t vaccinated to get the shot and fully vaccinated individuals to get the booster dose. 

“We continue to agree with health authorities that being vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best way to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe – especially as we face the winter months and a new variant – so please consider getting vaccinated if you aren’t already, and getting your booster if you are,” the company said.

Branch banks in other areas of the country are not subjected to these rules.
