Dem leader: ‘Democrats will not revolt’

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said the party would not abandon President Obama on Friday by supporting a GOP bill that would allow insurance companies to offer their old plans under the new healthcare law.

{mosads}“[The bill] would set up two completely different tracks and further undermine the implementation of the Affordable Care Act,” Wasserman Schultz said Thursday on CNN’s “New Day.” “Democrats will not revolt tomorrow.”

The “Keep Your Plan” bill, proposed by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), is gaining dozens of co-sponsors ahead of a vote this week. The legislation presently has 161 co-sponsors, including three Democrats.

“Tomorrow when that legislation comes on the floor, I’m confident the Democrats are going to stand, as we have, in unity to continue to support fully implementing the Affordable Care Act,” Wasserman Schultz said. “We do all believe that we should make sure that folks who like their plan can keep it. I know I’m confident that President Obama and his administration is working diligently to come up with a fix for that problem.”

House Democrats seemed prime for a revolt on Wednesday, expressing frustration at “being dragged into this non-stop cycle” of bad news.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that Obama will offer a proposal for people who have lost their health insurance plans because of ObamaCare. The White House said Obama will make a statement on the Affordable Care Act at 11:35 p.m.
