LeBron James pitches for ObamaCare

The Obama administration has recruited Miami Heat star LeBron James to help in its final push to get people signed up under the new healthcare law.

{mosads}In a 30-second ad released on Monday, James holds a #GetCovered sign while urging people to sign up before the March 31 open enrollment deadline.

“I know how important it is to take care of yourself, your friends, your family,” James says. “That’s why I want to tell you about the health insurance marketplace at HealthCare.gov. You can go there to find an affordable health plan that’s part of the healthcare law.”

Retired NBA players Magic Johnson and Alonzo Mourning, who left professional basketball in 1991 and 2009, respectively, have previously appeared in online ads for the healthcare law.

“The deadline to enroll is March 31,” James continues. “So sign up now, you never know when you might take a hit. Spread the word and get covered today.”

Also on Monday, the White House will court basketball fans in a March Madness-themed campaign. The administration will release a “16 Sweetest Reasons to Get Covered” bracket where users can vote online for the best reasons to obtain coverage.

Health and Human Services Department officials did not respond to a request by The Hill about the size of the ad buys, or when and where they will air.
