Democratic candidates go on offense in ObamaCare ads

Democrats in a half dozen competitive gubernatorial and Senate races are touting the Affordable Care Act.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Democrats and their allies in at least a half dozen races have taken out TV spots to highlight certain aspects of ObamaCare, including the requirement of coverage for pre-existing conditions and the focus on preventive care. Some have started attacking their GOP opponents for calling to repeal the law. 

{mosads}The report noted that Senate Majority PAC is running adds attacking GOP Senate candidate Terry Lynn Land in Michigan for calling to repeal ObamaCare. Land is running against Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.).

Republicans have made their criticism ObamaCare a pillar of their midterm election strategy and are seeking to wound vulnerable Democrats by highlighting their support for the law.

About 95 percent of the ads that have run against Sen. Kay Hagan (D) in North Carolina, for instance, have included criticism of the healthcare law, according to the media analysis group Kantar Media CMAG.

Polls show ObamaCare remains unpopular with the public, though the majority of voters would prefer specific changes over full repeal.
