The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is launching a new grassroots campaign criticizing House Republicans for their plan to sue President Obama over the healthcare law.
The DCCC announced Thursday it will launch calls in 18 districts blasting Republicans for spending “millions of taxpayer dollars on a frivolous lawsuit.”
{mosads}The effort builds on past criticisms of the GOP’s investigations into the 2012 Benghazi attack and the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups.
“Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, tell [your Republican congressman] to focus on fixing our economy, not wasting our money,” the call script reads.
The announcement came just as the House Rules Committee voted to advance the resolution that would authorize Boehner’s lawsuit. The legal action will argue Obama exceeded his constitutional authority by delaying the healthcare law’s employer mandate.
The resolution was approved 7-4 along party lines with one Republican amendment. Democrats proposed a total of 11 changes to the measure, but each was voted down by the panel’s GOP majority.
The House is expected to pass the resolution on Thursday of next week, capping its work before the August recess, after the Rules Committee holds one more meeting on the matter.
Matt Gorman, rapid response director with the National Republican Congressional Committee, slammed the robocalls in a statement that highlighted Democrats’ support for ObamaCare.
“The only thing more pathetic than Democrats’ defense of President Obama and his disregard for the Constitution is their unwavering support of his failed healthcare law,” Gorman said in a statement.
“Americans aren’t willing to go back to the days of Democrats and their budget-busting bills running wild in Washington.”
