Federal report warns of lax food and medicine safety standards in exporting nations
{mosads}Recommendations include:
• Mutually recognizing inspections by federal regulators and other developed nations to avoid wasteful duplicate testing of foreign facilities when “a vast number of facilities go uninspected”;
• Urging the U.S. government to work with Mexico to make food and medical product safety a part of the agenda for the June G-20 summit in Los Cabos; and
• Expanding the FDA’s Secure Supply Chain program, which rewards firms that can track their products with expedited entry into the U.S. market, if it’s deemed successful after it ends in 2014.
