Chaffetz slams House GOP: You still can’t point to a single thing we’ve done on healthcare

Former GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz (Utah) said members of Congress are frustrated with Republican leadership for not living up to promises to voters and passing a healthcare bill.

He said on Fox News that the GOP did not follow through on its promises to pass the healthcare bill despite having control over the House, Senate and the presidency. He said lawmakers promised to have a plan for repealing and replacing ObamaCare on Trump’s desk by the time he took office in January, but there is still no bill seven months later.

“It really feels like they really haven’t even gotten together and figured out a plan yet,” he said. “Here were are turning the corner into July and you still can’t point to a single thing that will unite us.”

{mosads}He said ObamaCare was almost repealed 50 times in a way that was “almost pretend,” but now it’s “real.”

Senate Republicans had hoped to rush a vote for their healthcare bill before Congress’s Fourth of July recess, but the leaders ended up delaying the vote after several key GOP leaders said they would vote no on the legislation.

Leaders have now set a deadline for the legislation for the end of the month, before Congress leaves for its August recess. 

Chaffetz, a former head of the House Oversight Committee, announced he was resigning from Congress in May and was hired to be a contributor and political analyst for Fox News late last month.
