Colorado and Nevada join western states cooperating on reopening

Colorado and Nevada will join a pact of Western states working on a joint plan for reopening their respective economies amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) said Monday Nevada and Colorado will join his state, Oregon and California as part of the Western States Pact. 

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) said it’s important to work together to share information and gain from other states. 

“I’m thrilled Colorado is joining the Western States Pact,” Polis said in the announcement. “There’s no silver bullet that will solve this pandemic until there is a cure so we must have a multifaceted and bold approach in order to slow the spread of the virus, keep our people safe and help our economy rebound.”

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) said sharing information and best practices on managing the outbreak will be critical for the health and safety of residents. 

“Millions of visitors from our fellow Western states travel to Nevada every year as a premier tourism destination and this partnership will be vital to our immediate recovery and long-term economic comeback,” he added. 

California, Washington and Oregon announced earlier this month they would be working on a joint plan for reopening their economies.

Multiple states are planning on allowing at least some non-essential businesses to open their doors on or near May 1.
