Poll: Nearly 8 in 10 think prescription drug prices are ‘unreasonable’

Nearly 8 in 10 respondents in a poll released Friday think that drug prices are “unreasonable.”

A Kaiser Family Foundation survey found that 79 percent of respondents classified drug prices as “unreasonable,” while just 17 percent found them “reasonable.” 

{mosads}Twenty-four percent of respondents said they found it difficult to pay the costs of their prescription medications. 

The survey also found broad support for measures to lower prescription costs. Placing a limit on out-of-pocket costs for people on Medicare had support from 76 percent of respondents and making generic drugs more readily available had support from 88 percent.

The poll also found that a number of people ration their drugs or skip doses altogether due to costs.

The Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed 1,440 adults living in the U.S. between Feb. 14-24. The poll’s margin for error was plus or minus 3 percentage points. 

Lowering drug prices has had bipartisan support in recent years.

A number of 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls have focused on lowering drug prices as part of their campaigns. The Trump administration has also encouraged patient discounts to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
