Ten states set to open COVID-19 vaccines to all adults as cases surge

Ten states are set to open vaccine eligibility to all adults this week, about a month before President Biden’s May 1 deadline for the entire nation to make vaccinations available to all adults.

Vaccine restrictions In Kansas, Louisiana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas will be removed for those 16 and older on Monday, according to a USA Today report. Minnesota will do the same on Tuesday, followed by Indiana and South Carolina on Wednesday and Connecticut on Thursday.

The age limit to get vaccinated in California will be dropped to 50 and older beginning on Thursday.

USA Today notes that 46 states and the District of Columbia have all pledged to meet Biden’s May 1 eligibility deadline.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 143 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered so far. More than a quarter of the U.S. population has received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

More than 180 million doses have been delivered, and USA Today notes that although the rate of vaccine administration has picked up recently, with 3.5 million doses administered on Saturday, it would still take more than a week to clear up the 37 million unused doses left.
