The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have postponed a game scheduled for Thursday night because of another COVID-19 outbreak within the Yankees organization.
“Following positive COVID-19 tests within the New York Yankees organization, tonight’s game between the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium has been postponed to allow for continued testing and contact tracing,” Major League Baseball said in a statement.
Three players on the Yankees, Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes, and Wandy Peralta, tested positive for COVID-19, according to the team’s general manager Brian Cashman. He said all three players were vaccinated.
Cashman also said three other COVID-19 tests are pending, according to The Athletic’s Yankees beat reporter Lindsey Alder
The Yankees are one of the few MLB clubs that have had 85 percent of their players vaccinated. The team had a similar COVID outbreak in May in which five of their position coaches test positive for the virus.
