British PM: ISIS fighters are ‘monsters’
British Prime Minister David Cameron on Sunday said his government would help “drive back, dismantle and destroy” the terrorists that released a video purporting to show the execution of David Haines.
{mosads}”They are not Muslims, they are monsters,” Cameron said after an emergency meeting.
“We are a peaceful people. We do not seek out confrontation, but we need to understand we cannot ignore this threat to our security and that to our allies,” Cameron said.
A video from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) called the British aid worker’s execution “A message to the allies of America.”
Cameron said ignoring ISIS would worsen the threat in Europe and the rest of the world.
“There is no option of keeping our heads down that would make us safe. … We have to confront this menace,” he said.
Cameron said the British government will support efforts to “drive back, dismantle and ultimately destroy ISIL and what it stands for,” using an alternate acronym for the terror group.
“We will do so in a calm and deliberate way, but with an iron determination. We will not do so on our own, but by working closely with our allies, not just the United States and in Europe, but also in the region because this organization poses a massive threat to the entire Middle East.”
President Obama on Saturday issued a statement condemning “the barbaric murder” of Haines.
“The United States stands shoulder to shoulder tonight with our close friend and ally in grief and resolve. We will work with the United Kingdom and a broad coalition of nations from the region and around the world to bring the perpetrators of this outrageous act to justice, and to degrade and destroy this threat to the people of our countries, the region and the world,” Obama said.
The brutal killings of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff were also posted online by ISIS.
