New push for select committee on Benghazi

Armed with the support of four conservative organizations, Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) on Wednesday renewed his call for lawmakers to join him in pushing for a select committee to probe last year’s attack in Benghazi, Libya, and the administration’s response.

Wolf sent his “Dear Colleague” letter a day after House committee leaders released an interim report blaming former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for security lapses that contributed to the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in the September attacks. Already, at least 123 House Republicans — more than half the Republican Conference — have co-sponsored his resolution.

{mosads}Wolf’s letter contains statements from four conservative organizations that renewed their calls for a select committee after the five committees of jurisdiction released their report. They are OPSEC, ACT! for America, the Center for Security Policy and Citizens United.

“A seven month long investigation that yields less than four pages of findings about the lack of a military response that could potentially have saved American lives in Benghazi is by definition totally inadequate,” said Scott Taylor, president of OPSEC, which is made up of former U.S. special forces and intelligence officials critical of President Obama’s national security record. “It’s now clear that only a select committee can deliver the answers that the American people deserve.”
