North Korea said Sunday that its ballistic missile test over the weekend proved it’s capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, the state news agency KCNA said Monday.
Kim Jong Un supervised the launch of the Hwasong-12 missile, KCNA said according to CNN, and the test flew 489 miles.
It was “aimed at verifying the tactical and technological specifications of the newly developed ballistic rocket capable of carrying a large-size heavy nuclear warhead,” KCNA said.
{mosads}U.S. officials said the missile flew across the country and landed in the Sea of Japan, about 60 miles from Vladivostok in eastern Russia.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley earlier on Sunday slammed North Korea for the launch, saying it wouldn’t help potential talks between the U.S. and Pyongyang.
