President Trump on Friday tweeted that Americans should be “proud” of the progress being made between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a historic peace summit.
In two early-morning tweets, the president celebrated Friday’s meeting between the two Korean leaders as an end to the Korean War, which never technically ended after the two nations signed an armistice in 1953.

“After a furious year of missile launches and Nuclear testing, a historic meeting between North and South Korea is now taking place. Good things are happening, but only time will tell!” Trump tweeted.
“KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!” the president added in a second message.
Friday’s news comes ahead of an expected summit between Trump and Kim, the first of its kind between a U.S. president and a North Korean leader in decades.
Trump has pledged to work alongside Moon to pressure North Korea into abandoning its burgeoning nuclear weapons program, which has caused tensions in the region for years.
On Friday, the two leaders agreed during the summit to work toward “a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula through complete denuclearization,” according to The Associated Press.
Kim also pledged an end to his country’s often-erratic missile tests, joking that “I will make sure not to interrupt your sleep anymore,” to the South Korean president.
