Rouhani: Iran will stay in nuclear deal if other countries abide by it

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that Iran would be willing to remain in the nuclear deal if its interests were protected, Reuters reported.

Rouhani said on state television that President Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the deal last week was a “violation of morals,” according to the news service.

“If the remaining five countries continue to abide by the agreement, Iran will remain in the deal despite the will of America,” he added during a meeting with Sri Lanka’s president.

Trump withdrew the U.S. from the multinational Iran nuclear deal, which the Obama administration negotiated in 2015.

His decision has angered European allies who are still working to salvage the deal.
