Another US worker in Cuba affected by mysterious health incident: report

U.S. officials have determined that another embassy worker in Cuba has been afflicted by a mysterious health issue, according to The Associated Press.

Twenty-five diplomats in the country have now reportedly been affected by similar problems.

The affected individual is one of two workers the U.S. removed from its embassy in Havana earlier this month due to health concerns. Medical tests confirmed the latest case, according to the AP.

The State Department did not immediately respond to the AP’s request for comment.

There have now been 25 confirmed instances of people being affected by what officials said are “specific attacks” on U.S. workers in Cuba. The U.S. is also examining a new potential case at a U.S. consulate in China.

U.S. personnel in Havana began reporting the incidents in 2016, though they were first disclosed publicly last year. American investigators have not yet determined who or what is causing the symptoms and illnesses.

Those affected by the incidents have reported a range of symptoms, including nausea, vomiting and difficulty balancing, as well as having concussions. Several also reported hearing strange sounds before experiencing symptoms, leading investigators initially to suspect that some sort of sonic device was responsible.

Cuba has said it is unaware of what is causing the workers’ symptoms.
