Germany on Monday made preparations to deport Mounir el-Motassadeq, one of only two men convicted in connection with the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that killed almost 3,000 people in the U.S.

Motassadeq was moved from his German jail cell on Monday after serving a 15-year jail sentence for his complicity in the attacks, according to multiple outlets

His jail term expires this November, reported German news outlet Deutsche Welle.

{mosads}“Everything is going according to plan,” a spokesman for the state of Hamburg’s interior ministry told Reuters. He said Motassadeq could be released on Monday under the condition that he is immediately deported to Morocco, his country of origin.

Motassadeq was one of the al Qaeda members who plotted the 9/11 attacks from Hamburg, Germany. He was sentenced to 15 years for being an accessory in the murders of 246 people on the 9/11 planes and his membership in a terror organization, according to Deutsche Welle.

His lawyers insist he did not know about the terrorist plot.

German authorities said they will announce when Motassadeq has been deported.
