The leader of Scotland’s largest political party praised Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday while taking aim at the lawmaker’s critics in the Democratic Party.

Nicola Sturgeon, leader of the left-leaning Scottish National Party, slammed the freshman congresswoman’s critics, whom she argued were “threatened” by “clever young women” like Ocasio-Cortez.

{mosads}”It’s amazing how threatened some people are by clever young women — @AOC has only just been elected and this article suggests that some in her party are already planning to oust her, just because she’s rocking the boat,” Sturgeon wrote.

“More power to her,” she added.

Sturgeon’s comments were in response to an article in The Hill that cited Democratic lawmakers expressing their ire at Ocasio-Cortez for her support of Justice Democrats, a left-leaning group that backed her candidacy and has called for primary challenges against centrist members of the party.

Ocasio-Cortez also responded to the article on Tuesday by retweeting Sturgeon’s comments and blasting the “broken mentality” of some House Democrats regarding perceived ownership of congressional seats.

“That broken mentality, that public office is something you wait in line for, instead of earning through hard organizing, is exactly what voters want to change,” she wrote on Tuesday. “Shows you how disconnected some folks here are.”
