Monaco’s Prince Albert tests positive for coronavirus

Monaco’s Prince Albert has tested positive for the coronavirus, a statement from his office said Thursday.

In a letter obtained by Voice of America, the monarch’s office said that Albert’s case “does not cause concern,” according to a translation.

Albert is the first member of a royal family to publicly confirm a diagnosis of COVID-19. The outbreak has sickened more than 200,000 people globally and killed more than 9,000.

Just seven cases have been reported in Monaco, far fewer than in neighboring Italy, where hundreds of deaths and new cases are reported every day.
