Lebanon’s Cabinet resigned on Monday amid widespread protests against the government following the devastating explosions at Beirut’s port last week that killed more than 200 people.

Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan announced the government’s resignations after a Cabinet meeting on Monday and that the country’s prime minister is heading to the presidential palace to hand over a resignation “in the name of all the ministers.”

“The whole government resigned,” Hamad said, according to The Associated Press.

The announcement comes before an expected address to the public by Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab later on Monday.

Lebanon’s Cabinet will take on a caretaker role until a new government is formed, the AP reported.

An outraged public took to the streets of Beirut over the weekend to demonstrate against the government in the aftermath of twin explosions last week that caused widespread damage to the capital city and injured thousands.
