Former Vice President Mike Pence took issue Tuesday with President Trump saying Ukraine “may be Russian someday.”

“Mr. President, Ukraine will only ‘be Russian someday’ if the United States abandons them to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s brutal invasion. As you just said, ’When America is Strong the World is at Peace.’ Stand Firm,” Pence said in a post on social platform X highlighted by Mediaite.

“If Ukraine falls, it will only be a matter of time until Russia invades a NATO ally our troops will be required to defend,” he added.

Pence’s post also featured a screenshot of a story from CBS News featuring Trump’s comments.

Trump’s comments about Ukraine came from an interview that aired Monday with Fox News’s Bret Baier.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Vice President Vance are both set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with Vance meeting him Friday.

“I am sending Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. This War MUST and WILL END SOON — Too much Death and Destruction. The U.S. has spent BILLIONS of Dollars Globally, with little to show. WHEN AMERICA IS STRONG, THE WORLD IS AT PEACE,” Trump posted Tuesday on Truth Social.

During Trump’s 2024 campaign, he pledged to end Russia and Ukraine’s conflict and insisted the invasion of Ukraine by Russia would not have happened if he was in the Oval Office.
