Two people drowned and dozens are missing on Thursday after a boat sank in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Transportation Minister Alimasi Malumbi Mathieu said the boat hit a rock on Lake Kivu on the eastern border of the country, Reuters reported.
The minister said they are unsure of the exact number of individuals on the boat and would not give a number on how many the government believes could be missing, according to Reuters.
Delphin Birimbi, the head of a local civil society, said the group believes 40 people are missing, with 60 people already rescued.
The search and rescue operation has been suspended due to heavy rain, Reuters noted.
