China says international security is destabilized by US ‘power politics’

China said Wednesday that U.S. “power politics” and unilateral policies are destabilizing to international stability. 

The statement was made in a policy outline by the country’s Defense Ministry, according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}The U.S. was mentioned in a section at the start of the outline on “prominent destabilizing factors” and “profound changes” to global security. 

“The U.S. has adjusted its national security and defense strategies, and adopted unilateral policies,” the document said, according to the AP. “It has provoked and intensified competition among countries, significantly increased its defense expenditure … and undermined global strategic stability.”

It also said that attempts by the U.S., Japan and Australia to increase their military presence and alliances in the region created uncertainties. 

The document said specifically that a U.S. missile defense system in South Korea has disrupted regional balance. 

It also outlined other policies for the country, including reunifying Taiwan with the mainland and fighting what China considers separatists in Tibet.
